I, Fry Torrence aka Fryto am an artist residing in Spain.
Like most people, I was more interested in cartoon, comics and games than fine art when I was a child. I have developed such an appreciation for new mediums that I studied computer science and game design on a scholarship in college, during which I explored a topic of my concern (whether video game is a legitimate art form) (conclusion: it is). It was a fantastic excursion that rewarded me with various disciplinary approaches to bring fantasy to life.
Then my interest took a huge turn and I became fascinated with old masters. Tiepolo, Rembrandt and Bosch have become some of my favorites. I've also come to love artists in more recent times such as Sargent, Rockwell, Dali, Frazetta and Warhol. I have never stopped watching the many new and distinct artists emerging in our time, now. I was under all of their influences.
The power of music and sculpture and eccentic acts and experiences has been a mystery to me, but I believe they have contributed to my work in every phase. What I know for sure is that there is realism that only exists in fantasy. It is not absurd to seek clarity and meaning in abstract and obscurity, and I believe even as I create, I do more seeing than making.
I have been working on a style of expression that I would describe as "subdued sensationalism". Achieving such ideal requires practice through various projects, and you can see some of the projects on this site.
